SEASON UPDATE – BROADWAY IS BACK

June 3, 2021

Broadway Theatre League of Utica announced its 2021-2022 Season today outside of The Stanley Theatre under the lights of the marquee.

Executive Director, Danielle Padula began by addressing the crowd with Broadway Utica’s mission statement which is to present, produce and promote the highest standards of excellence in a variety of family-orientated, multi-generational and sophisticated theatrical productions; to expose the community to the many benefits of live theatre and the performing arts; to provide opportunities for the youth of the community to experience these benefits as well and that is exactly what we did.

This past season of shows,  that unfortunately never happened, gave Broadway Utica the opportunity to go beyond the stage and reflect on the importance of the message they want to spread. Although the shows did not take place, Broadway Utica continued to bring us together.  Padula explained how the community came together with all that Broadway Utica had to offer during this challenging time. Broadway Utica found ways to unite people by offering to witness A virtual Magic show with Utica native Leon Etienne right in your own living room.  Many gathered together as Broadway Utica presented its first ever drive-in movie at Par technology. Santa, Mrs. Claus and a few of his elves even flew in from the North Pole to wave through their downtown office window to give folks the opportunity to say hello. The community welcomed Broadway Utica with open arms to play the Easter Bunny and sprinkle plastic eggs on your lawn for children to wake up to the next day. Broadway Utica’s Team is commitment to you, not just on stage, but off the stage as well.  The Bernadette Eichler Youth Ambassador Program ran strong with 40+ local high school students who were able to attend regular monthly virtual meeting,  partake in virtual master classes from Broadway Stars, spread holiday cheer throughout our city and learn from local community leaders. This program is funded through our great partners at Bank of Utica along with patrons who generously  donate.

March of 2020 was the last time patrons witnessed the curtain rise, the sound of an audience applause and the chance to say hello to a friend during intermission. 15 long months later, Broadway Utica stands here today. The day we have all been waiting for. As one of the first industries to close and the last to open, the time has come.  Broadway Utica will once again light up the Stanley stage this Summer!

In true Broadway Utica fashion, the bar continues to be raised. With this time off from presenting touring Broadway production due to the pandemic, make no mistake the staff at Broadway Utica has been working harder than ever.  This time has allowed Broadway Utica to reflect on their mission and focus more on message that Broadway Utica wishes to uphold in this community.  Broadway Utica wants to take all of you Beyond the Stage. Broadway Utica’s team has taken the time to have more genuine and in depth conversations with our season subscribers, youth and community partners. Every event we have put on during this time we had you all in mind. We will carry this out during our season as well with the productions that have been selected to come to our community.  – I am proud to announce our 2021-2022 Season called “BEYOND THE STAGE”
