Broadway is starting here—in Utica! For two unforgettable nights, The Sound of Music will open its brand-new national tour at the stunning Stanley Theatre, September 5–6, 2025. Presented by the Broadway Theatre League of Utica, this spectacular revival will debut right here before hitting over 50 cities across North America, making Utica the first stop in a major theatrical event that is already gaining national attention.
Why See It in Utica First?
This isn’t just a tour stop—it’s the tour launch. The full cast, crew, and creative team will be in Utica for four weeks of tech rehearsals, fine-tuning every scene, song, and spotlight moment right on our local stage. That means audiences here will be the very first to experience this bold new vision of the beloved musical, before Broadway critics and national press.
A Legendary Story, Reimagined for a New Generation
Directed by Tony Award® winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, The Front Page), this production breathes new life into the story of Maria and the von Trapp family. With rich theatrical storytelling, updated visual design, and a deeper emotional core, this Sound of Music isn’t just nostalgic—it’s powerful, relevant, and more moving than ever.
Meet the Fresh, Phenomenal Cast
This new tour features a dream cast of Broadway talent ready to bring the hills to life:
Cayleigh Capaldi (Titanique, Figaro) stars as Maria Rainer, bringing warmth, modern charisma, and stunning vocals to the iconic role.
Kevin Earley (A Tale of Two Cities, Les Misérables) lends gravitas and heart to Captain von Trapp.
Christiane Noll, Tony nominee for Ragtime, brings commanding presence and soul-stirring vocals as the Mother Abbess.
Nicholas Rodriguez (The Sound of Music Live!, Tarzan) returns to the story in a new light as the quick-witted Max Detweiler.
The von Trapp children are portrayed by a talented group of rising stars whose chemistry, charm, and vocals will melt your heart.
The Music You Love – Performed Like Never Before
From “Do-Re-Mi” to “Edelweiss” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s unforgettable score is brought to life with new energy and full orchestration under the musical supervision of Andy Einhorn (Hello, Dolly!, Carousel). Prepare to hear familiar songs as if for the first time—with a full, rich sound and authentic emotion that lifts the whole theater.
Economic & Cultural Impact for Utica
By hosting this national launch, Utica is stepping into the national spotlight. The production brings in jobs for local stagehands and technicians, drives business to area restaurants, hotels, and shops, and highlights the Stanley Theatre as a hub for first-class entertainment. Your ticket supports local arts and economic growth!
