Beyond The Stage

Arts Education is a vital part of Broadway Utica’s mission.

Beyond The Stage

Broadway Theatre League of Utica has been around for nearly 65 years presenting touring Broadway productions right here in downtown Utica at The Stanley Theatre. In 2020 Broadway Utica developed a program called “BEYOND THE STAGE”. Through this one-of-a-kind give back program, specifically designed to help other non-profits and raise awareness, Broadway Utica is able to raise awareness, monetary donation and physical items for organization with the assistance and the help of our ticket holders.

“When working closely with producers and selecting shows for our upcoming seasons, we always look into the shows messaging and how it ties into our community and our mission.” says Danielle Padula, Executive Director of Broadway Utica. “We know how fortunate we are to live in a powerful community that believes in giving back to others, for instance we worked with Rome Rescue Mission to STOMP out hunger.”

“The STOMP Out Hunger campaign that Broadway Utica ran was flawless,” Matt Miller, Executive Director of the Rome Rescue Mission, stated. “While we’ve had the opportunity to provide thousands of healthy meals to individuals in need, before and during COVID, it’s the spirit behind what we offer — behind what the community creates for them–that helps feed their soul. The question isn’t how we can work to keep hunger at bay, but how we can work to educate our community so we can work to stop the cycle of hunger altogether.”

Broadway Utica asked ticket holders to bring a canned good or non-perishable item to STOMP’s two-night performance back in August of 2021. Playing an ode to the show, metal trash cans were placed out side the theatre .They were overflowing within minutes of the doors open. It was an incredible site to see, especially in a pandemic. Our community continues to amaze us each day.

In the past Broadway Utica has named BEYOND THE STAGE recipients including organizations like Spring Farms CARES during the 2020 production of  CATS to collect items in need, The Q Center to raise awareness for the LGTBQ+ community at the performance of RENT, Empowered Pathways to give women necessary supplies to enter into the workforce while we welcomed SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical in 2021 and more.

“Empowered Pathways is very grateful to Broadway Utica for honoring the women we serve through this special collaboration,” Empowered Pathway’s Executive Director Stephanie Dulak- Eghigian stated. “Thank you for helping us shine a light on the stories of the women who come to the WERC program seeking training and support.”
